Tanya Price of the Monroe/Sky Valley Family YMCA shared several compelling success stories of Monroe Y members at the Club's regular meeting September 19th.   Although the Monroe Y is only the 5th largest in Snohomish County, it has a huge impact on the lives of community members.  Not only does it provide recreational opportunities, it also provides programs that help improve the lives of its members.

The Y works with several partner agencies in the battle against chronic disease.  Not only do they have a cancer survivor program “LIVESTRONG at the Y”, but they also support the health and well-being of those suffering from Parkinson’s Disease with the “Pedaling for Parkinson’s” program.  Providence, Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Everett Clinic partner with the Y to provide family support in reducing youth obesity with ”ACT!” (Actively Changing Together).  ACT! is for children and teens ages 8-14 who have a BMI greater than the 85 percentile.  The program teaches parents and children nutrition and exercise habits that enhance their well-being.  The Y even provides affordable, high-quality child care your child, nurturing them as an individual as they learn, grow, and develop social skills.
