ImageThe Rotary Club of Monroe is sponsoring Hannah Lunstrum for the Group Study Exchange that will be travelling to New Zealand in April and May, 2013.
Hannah is from Monroe, Washington.  She works for the Monroe YMCA as a Teen Programs Director and runs programs for youth, ages 10-18, that foster academic success, leadership skills and civic engagement.  Hannah is passionate about social justice and oversees a cold weather shelter for the homeless in her community. In her free time she loves to hike, snowboard, travel, play guitar and do anything creative.

What is the Group Study Exchange?
The Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural experience for business and professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40.  The GSE program is designed  to develop professional and leadership skills among young adults, so that they can address the needs of their communities in an increasingly global workplace.

Rotary districts in different countries are paired and send groups of non-Rotarian team members and one Rotaran team leader on a tour for four to six weeks.  The team members experience the host country's culture and institutions, observe how their vocation is practiced abroad, develop extra personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.  In a typical four week tour, members participate in five days of vocational visits, 15 to 20 club presentations and 10 to 15 formal visits and social events.

For each team member, the Rotary Foundation provides a round-trip airline ticket between the home and host country.   Rotarians in the host area provide mews, lodging, and group travel within their district.

Rotarian Bill Robson is married to Lona and has 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren.  Bill is originally from England, but has lived in Canada since 1974 and joined Rotary as the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Cloverdale in British Columbia.  Bill has also served the District as an assistant governor and as District Foundation chair.  Bill is fortunate to be team leader for this amazing group of young adults from the USA and is so happy to be visiting New Zealand where GSE began.

Caite Holman,
Fundraiser

Caite Holman is the Director of Annual Giving at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.  She and her staff raise over $25M USD in donations each year for the University through personal solicitation, mail and telephone fundraising.  As a two-time alumna of WWU, Caite is passionate about supporting her alma mater and loves working in the non-profit sector.  She spends her time BBQ-ing with her friends, fishing and crabbing, playing lawn games, going snowshoeing and travelling throughout the world.

Karena Hooks,
Multicultural Educator

Karena Hooks is the Director of Outreach & Diversity at Everett Community College.  She is committed to student success and dedicated to providing college opportunities for all students.  Karena enjoys meeting new people and strengthening cross-cultural understanding.  She was raised in southern California and now lives in Everett, Washington with her mom and dog daughter Daisymae.  This is her first time traveling abroad.  For fun Karena likes to go to the beach, read, practice Taekwondo and listen to music.

Kelsey Miner,
Structural Engineer

Kelsey Miner is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and is currently a Project Manager/ Design Engineer at EDCO Inc. in Mount Vernon, Washington.  He engineers, details and manages projects in construction of metal structures and other metal fabrications.  With his wife, Nicole, he is passionate about sustainable food production and enjoys cooking, canning, vegetable gardening, home brewing, cider and beer, raising chickens and pigs.
